Niagara Regional Council does not approve of the new dining room restriction.
It limits restaurant dining rooms to only members of the same household or essential caregivers.
Council has voted unanimously in favour of asking the Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Mustafa HIrji, to rescind the restriction.
But it's up to Dr. Hirji to make the final call.
He introduced the new restriction last week, after discovering multiple cases of the virus linked to restaurants through contact tracing.
Dr. Hirji is hoping it will help prevent more restrictive measures down the road.
Several restaurants have said this new restriction will lead to job losses.
The motion approved last night also calls for stricter enforcement measures.
It also calls for biweekly COVID-19 workshops so council can hear the latest updates from Public Health officials.
