Some councillors voted against, not in favour of the procedure in passing this
Fort Erie's mayor leading the charge in letting the provincial government know how the region feels about an unelected Chair and 12 local mayors as a new council.
Wayne Redekop's letter, endorsed by the region, asks the province for an elected chair, and removing veto power for the chair.
He called the government's plan astounding. "I wouldn't have thought when I started my political career, actually during my lifetime, that I would ever be involved in a debate about whether or not the representatives of local government would be appointed, rather than elected by the residents."
The plan for an unelected chair is expected to pass since the Ford government has a majority.
Some Mayors opposed it, many due to some of the content.
Councillor Andrea Kaiser was in full support, of letting the province know. "I have been shocked by the fact that this is not in the headlines, and people are not outraged. People were outraged about a jet, and rightly so."
Mayor/Councillor Frank Campion favours strong powers as it provides stability to a city government.
