BARRIE - Barrie City Council has put a stop to proposed bylaw amendments, which would have banned the distribution of food, tents, and other items to homeless people on public property.
The amendments were created in order to prevent local organizations from distributing the items along the city's waterfront. But officials say they're no longer needed because local non-profit Busby Centre has agreed to move their outreach efforts to private property.
City Council has referred the amendments back to staff, so they can update some of the outdated language. Mayor Alex Nuttall says the existing bylaw would not be enforced until the wording is updated.
