Move to start tomorrow at all Canadian airports
The federal government is expected to end the mandatory randomized testing for incoming travelers at Canada's airports.
CBC news is reporting the move will start as early as tomorrow.
Only unvaccinated travelers will be required to take a test upon entry into Canada.
Up to now, fully vaccinated travelers were being subjected to random COVID-19 testing upon arrival.
The feds have been under pressure to do something to help alleviate huge delays reported at most of the country's biggest airports, although Pearson in Toronto has been said to be the worst.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority says four-hundred-and-ninety-thousand eight-hundred-and-ten travelers, or about half of all arrivals from abroad, faced delays in May as they were held inside their planes on the tarmac or faced staggered off-loading to ease pressure on overflowing customs areas.
The federal government has pledged to hire hundreds more security screening officers, with Transport Canada also creating a committee made up of government agencies and industry stakeholders to address bottlenecks at security checkpoints.
