St. Catharines councillors didn't like how it dealt with boulevard parking, also on front yards and side yards
The City of St. Catharines is giving a proposed parking by-law another review, after councillors weren't too happy with parts of it.
The idea is to deal with unauthorized parking on boulevards, front yards and side yards, and better enforcement.
But, Councillor Kevin Townsend said there's only boulevard parking in some areas. "In regards to those residents who have already converted their front lawn to a parking space, I can think of at least 50, how will this impact them?"
City staff say property owners who have applied to install parking areas would be ok.
The idea was to put the by-law in place January 1st.
Councillor Bruce Williamson noted current enforcement is already a problem. "Lots of visitors who come and park and create issues for local residents, in terms of blocking driveways, and other issues. I also think that it seems like a pretty aggressive timeline."
Councillor Townsend added with all due respect, there's not enough by-law officers to enforce current law.
