More than $894,000 will be used to support four local events and festivals, including the Winter Festival of Lights.

Four local events and festivals are getting some help from the province.

Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries Lisa Macleod was in Niagara Falls today to announce an investment of over $894,000 through the Reconnect Festival and Event Program.

Through the program, the Winter Festival of Lights and the Niagara Falls Music Week & New Year's Eve will both get $250,000.

As well, Fleur de Villes en Route Niagara Falls Floral Trail will get more than $149,000, and $245,000 is going to Canada Diwali Razzmatazz.

MacLeod says the money will help support economic and social recovery in the area.

"Increasing our annual support for festivals and events will give the sector a much-needed boost and pave the way for long-term recovery. It is critical that our government supports organizations that are finding new ways to engage and reconnect Ontarians with their local communities while creating local jobs."

This year, the province issued a one-time funding increase of $50 million to help festivals and events across Ontario.
