Niagara Health says it's not renewing the operating licence once it expires this year
Confirmation from Niagara Health that the Welland long-term care home will close this year, due to the operating licence not being renewed once it expires in June.
It has served Niagara seniors for over 50 years, and care will continue until the final resident has been moved to a new home.
Niagara Health says the building no longer meets modern safety and accessibility standards.
The organization adds as it works on the South Niagara hospital, and renovating the Welland site, it's no longer practical to rebuild and run the home.
As of today, the current home is no longer accepting new residents, and arrangements are being made for impacted staff.
